COMMUNITY TESTIMONIES

“I love English as a subject as it constantly challenges me with new hurdles at every turn. I know that English is a difficult subject, I’ve been through it, but I keep going and persevere through the obstacles with the help of my super-supportive teachers. English can certainly be hard at times, I specifically have trouble with essays (would recommend reading The Griffin Gazette’s essay tips fs <3<3<3), but I also know how important English is for my future because I will need strong communications skills — and neat handwriting — to pursue medicine, which is my goal in life.”

“I find English to be a very engaging subject as I enjoy reading and writing, which certainly are prevalent aspects of the subject. The positive experience is further supplemented by the calm and serene classroom environments that English takes place in. Moreover, the teachers, Ms. Berda in particular, are super kind and supportive. They explain everything really well and ensure that I understand all the content, so I rarely have any challenges and difficulties with the coursework. On the rare occasion that I do have trouble with something, I just ask my friends or refer to the notes that Ms. Berda gives us.”

“English at the high school level is certainly a pleasure to go through. Students have the opportunity to engage in topics such as poetry, writing, and comprehension. My teaching style revolves around establishing connections with my students and ensuring that they feel comfortable asking questions when they don’t understand the course content. Palmer works to build students’ competency in English coursework to prepare them for future academia and professional life. I truly believe that reading and writing well is a skill that students will need regardless of the field that they decide to go into as their career. English can be really easy if you simply stay on task and follow instructions — most of my students do really well in their course for that single reason!”

“English is very fun for my students because I make sure to engage them with warm up activities before introducing the day’s task. I work particularly to build students’ reading and writing skills through their journey at Palmer. Moreover, I try my best to establish a strong connection and relationship with my students through occasional check ins, so that I always know what’s going on in their lives outside school and can help them accordingly. I also encourage the responsible use of technology by students in order to improve their learning. I like to engage students by assigning out exciting projects like presentations and writing work to make sure that my students are never bored.”
