LARGEST RUSSIAN AIR ATTACK OF WAR SETS FIRE TO UKRAINIAN CABINET BUILDING
By Aditya Mittal · Top News

Russia launched its largest-ever airstrike on Ukraine, targeting multiple cities with drones and missiles, including Kyiv, where a key government building was hit for the first time. The attack, which resulted in at least three deaths, including a mother and her baby, also injured 18 others. Explosions were reported in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih. Ukrainian authorities issued a nationwide air-raid warning, accusing Russia of intentionally targeting civilians.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a “deliberate crime” and urged the US for a "strong response," especially regarding sanctions. The US had previously imposed secondary sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil, with President Donald Trump hinting at further sanctions. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces intercepted a significant portion of the incoming strikes, including 747 drones and several cruise missiles.
In Kyiv, a government building housing Ukraine's cabinet was damaged by drone or missile debris, leading to a large fire that engulfed the upper floors. This marks the first time such a building has been targeted during the war. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko vowed to rebuild the damaged structures but emphasized the irreparable loss of lives. Other parts of the city suffered significant destruction as residential buildings were damaged, fires broke out, and debris fell on the streets. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed the death of an infant and a young woman, with a pregnant woman also among the injured. One elderly person died in a bomb shelter in the Darnytskyi district.
The attacks extended to several other cities across Ukraine. In Odesa, multiple residential buildings were destroyed, while in Zaporizhzhia, at least 15 people were injured in a drone strike. Kharkiv and Dnipro also reported widespread damage to infrastructure. In Kremenchuk, explosions disrupted power supply to several areas. Russia’s deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure was highlighted by Kyiv’s military administration.
The international community swiftly condemned Russia's actions. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attacks “cowardly,” while US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned of increased sanctions against Russia, particularly targeting its oil and gas exports. The situation in Ukraine continues to escalate, with both sides bracing for further conflict.
