AT PALMER

INTRODUCTION
Out of the many thousands of languages spoken throughout the world, perhaps the most widely and uniformly adopted language is English. Contrary to popular belief, English is far more than just grammar and essays. The English language, rooted in the Latin and Celtic Syntax, formed over time during Carolingian times in the Anglo-Saxon territories of modern day United Kingdom. The language remained largely the same for a few centuries, before Norman influence following England’s loss to William the Conqueror brought heavy French influence onto the language. It wasn’t until medieval times that the next notable changes were made in the Language, with even more prevalent evolutions arriving only by the 1700’s, through the works of revolutionary artists such as William Shakespeare, whose texts are studied to this day. English was brought to Canada in 1763, when the Hudson Bay Company first began to lay claim to North America. It has since been adopted as one of Canada’s two primary languages and acts as a catalyst of communication worldwide.
