Gr 8

Grade 8

French 8: This course focuses on setting the foundation for future french courses and builds on the base of grade 5, 6, and 7. It teaches students basic vocabulary, including numbers, colours, animals, classroom objects, weather, and much more. Moreover, it helps students develop an understanding of general french grammatical structure, introducing verb conjugation and simple tenses. Students learn through completing live speaking activities, songs, role-plays, and conversations. Its prerequisite is grade 7.

Grade 9

French 9: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid by French 8. It is a semester-long course. This is when the curriculum shifts to focus more on written work, while ensuring that oral presentations participation is also present in classrooms. The course explands students' learning with new tenses and a much larger vocabulary pool. Concepts such as comparatives and future proche are introduced and covered in detail. Students learn through submitting written paragraphs or essays, presentations, and orally participating in lectures.

Spanish 9: This course lays out the foundation for students that wish to continue learning Spanish in the future. It introduces the basic sentence structure and grammatical formatting, while focusing largely on students being able to convey their thoughts through short sentences. A heavy chunk of the course focuses on the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, such as those in Latin America and Europe. Students will analyze the diverse cuisines, traditions, and media of these countries to expand their learning. It has no prerequisite.

Japanese 9: This course introduces the Japanese language and culture to students that are fascinated by Japanese media. It lays out the foundation of the language by showing students the basic elements of the language, including writing in basic sentences and communicating their thoughts through an increasingly large vocabulary. It focuses heavily on media analysis and students learn from consuming anime, movies, and music to learn about Japanese culture. The course has no prerequisite.

Grade 10

Core French 10: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid by French 9. It is a semester-long course. The curriculum continues to focus on written work, while ensuring that oral presentations participation is also present in classrooms. The course explands students' learning with new tenses and a much larger vocabulary pool. Concepts such as new tenses and COD/COI are introduced and covered in detail. Students learn through submitting written paragraphs or essays, presentations, and orally participating in lectures. The prerequisite is French 9.

Spanish 10: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid out by Spanish 9. It builds upon the grammatical competency through introducing irregular words, new tenses, and expanding students' vocaubulary. A heavy chunk of the course focuses on the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, such as those in Latin America and Europe. Students will analyze the diverse cuisines, traditions, and media of these countries to expand their learning. The prerequisite is Spanish 9.

Japanese 10: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid out by Japanese 9. It lays out the foundation of the language by showing students the basic elements of the language, including writing in basic sentences and communicating their thoughts through an increasingly large vocabulary. It introduces the katakana and kanji, which are integral to learning Japanese. It focuses heavily on media analysis and students learn from consuming anime, movies, and music to learn about Japanese culture. The prerequisite is Japanese 9.

Gr 11

Grade 11

Core French 11: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid by French 10. It is a semester-long course. The curriculum continues to focus on written work, while ensuring that oral presentations participation is also present in classrooms. The course explands students' learning with new tenses and a much larger vocabulary pool. The course also builds students' intrests in French through introducing France's culture and traditions. Students learn through submitting written paragraphs or essays, presentations, and orally participating in lectures. The prerequisite is French 10.

It focuses heavily on media analysis and students learn from consuming anime, movies, and music to learn about Japanese culture. The course is a combination of the grade 9 and 10 curriculum and has no prerequisite. 

Japanese 11: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid out by Japanese 10. It shows students the basic elements of the language, including writing in basic sentences and communicating their thoughts through an increasingly large vocabulary. It introduces the katakana, hirakana, and kanji, which are integral to learning Japanese. It focuses heavily on media analysis and students learn from consuming anime, movies, and music to learn about Japanese culture. The course provides university credits toward a second language and the prerequisite is Japanese 10.

Gr 12

Grade 12

Core French 12: This course focuses mainly on oral skills, as reading and writing has already been completely cleared in French 11.  The curriculum continues to focus largely on oral presentations, participation is highly encouraged in classrooms. The course explands students' learning with new speaking and accent techniques. The course also builds students' intrests in French through introducing France's culture and traditions. Students learn through submitting written paragraphs or essays, presentations, and orally participating in lectures. The prerequisite is French 11.

Spanish 12:  This course shows students the more complex elements of the language, including writing in longer sentences and communicating their thoughts through an increasingly large vocabulary. It builds upon the fluency in students through oral oractice and accent excercises. A heavy chunk of the course focuses on the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, such as those in Latin America and Europe. Students will analyze the diverse cuisines, traditions, and media of these countries to expand their learning. The course provides university credits toward a second language and the prerequisite is Spanish 11.

Japanese 12: This course builds upon the foundation previously laid out by Japanese 11. It shows students the more complex elements of the language, including writing in longer sentences and communicating their thoughts through an increasingly large vocabulary. It advances the katakana, hirakana, and particularly the kanji, which are integral to learning fluent Japanese. It focuses heavily on media analysis and students learn from consuming anime, movies, and music to learn about Japanese culture. The course provides university credits toward a second language and the prerequisite is Japanese 11.
