INTRODUCTION

It provides students with the groundwork required to understanding the thought process of communities that differ from their own, while delving deep into the lifestyle of those outside Canada. The study of languages has existed for millenia and proved specially useful for traders, sailors, and colonizers, who had to constantly adapt to new cultures and communicate with an increasingly diverse group of people, however, the concept of learning languages as a subject at school is fairly new.  Following the second world war, English largely dominated the majority of communication and teaching medium due to the global dominance of the United States and British Empire, sidelining other langages.  Then, many influential nations at the time popularized their own languages through the spread of media, which resulted in them being taught throughout the world.
