Biology has existed as an essential element of human life for many millennia; long before it was even established and formally recognized as a scientific discipline. Since the birth of civilizations, people have experimented with plants to make medication, experimented with animals to find the perfect hunting techniques, and studied themselves to understand more about the world. Humans have consistently relied on biological knowledge to survive, advance, and thrive as a collective society. The foundational study of modern biology first began in Greece, amid great philosophers like Aristole, and was later expanded by countless scientists during the scientific revolution. Over time, advancements such as scientific methods, SI units, glassware, and microscope lens technology allowed scientists to study biology at the molecular and cellular level, revealing the very backbone of life itself. Today, biology drives innovation, with applications ranging from medicine, agriculture, vaccine development, genetic engineering, and even artificial intelligence, all running on the same basic fundamental concepts used many millennia ago.
