Chemistry has existed as an essential element of human life for many millennia; long before it was even established and formally recognized as a scientific discipline. Since the birth of civilizations, people have experimented with plants to make medication, experimented with witchcraft to please or displease divine entities, and pondered about what truly makes up the world. Humans have consistently relied on chemical knowledge to learn more about their surroundings as a collective society. Early chemical practices emerged through metallurgy, medicine, and alchemy in civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and the Islamic world. Over time, advancements such as scientific methods, SI units, glassware, and microscope lens technology allowed scientists to study chemistry at the atomic and sub-atomic levels, revealing the very backbone of matter itself. Today, chemistry drives innovation, with applications ranging from medicine, energy, weapons of mass destruction, and much more, all running on the same basic fundamental concepts used many millennia ago to create ornamental dyes.
